Real Simple: How Often Should You Get a Facial?

Nichelle Temple

How Frequently Should You Get a Facial?

For optimal skin health, four to six weeks is the ideal frequency for getting a professional facial. This is because the regeneration cycle of new skin cells occurs roughly every four weeks. “For maximum efficacy on a specific concern, say acne, signs of premature aging, or hyperpigmentation, a more frequent interval of two to three weeks initially, until they’re at a place of maintenance,” saysNichelle Temple, esthetician and founder of New York City’s Inderma Studio. She adds, “When a big event is coming up, I like to map out a service plan to maximize our results together. Alternating services for lifting, exfoliation, and deep cleaning, and those days when the stress is strong, and you just need some gentle touch and relaxation.”

Not only does getting routine facials every four to six weeks help keep your skin looking great, but it helps you commit to a “me day” for some much-needed downtime.

New Covid-19 Guidelines

Nichelle Temple

Hello Lovelies,

*Edited to add as of March 26th, 2021 our staff is fully vaccinated! We ask that you fill out a Covid safety questionnaire when scheduling, allow a temperature check upon arrival, and arrive in a mask which you may remove at the start of your facial.

Here is the updated guidance from New York State:

“Personal care services that require customers to remove face coverings (e.g. face massage, facials, face waxing around lip or nose areas, face tattoos, facial makeup, cosmetic lip tattooing, lip/nose piercings, beard trimmings, or shaves) are prohibited, unless the employee is wearing a face shield or similar barrier in addition to their face covering. Additionally, any employee performing such services must be tested, at least once on or after September 3, 2020, for COVID-19 through a diagnostic test and receive a negative result priori to the employee performing such services that require removal of a customer’s face covering.”

With the updated guidelines Inderma is happy to begin offering a wider range of services to help heal that Maskne we are all dealing with!

Updated Service Menu:

We are of course continuing to follow all of the sanitizing, air filtration and client screening. I will also be getting tested at least every 14 days and am happy to share those results with any of my clients on request.

xoxo

Skincare Basics

Nichelle Temple

Hey Friends! I’m a blogger now. Lol. Okay so! Let’s start with The Basics of your skincare routine and how seeking out a trusted professional to assist you along the way can truly help you to achieve that effortless look we all strive to achieve.

EVENING

  1. Clean your face! If you are a makeup guru please use a micellar water or pre-cleansing oil to loosen that makeup. Please no bars of body wash that you suds your face with either. A proper facial cleanser and a dedicated 60 seconds of facial massage as you go. Can’t imagine washing your face for an entire minute? Make a mental gratitude list as you go and give yourself a few compliments as you stand in front of the mirror.

    1. Exfoliation. No loofahs please! Never any plastic beads or apricot shells. No no. Exfoliation can be an acidic solution, a vvvvery gentle scrub of the rice powder variety or a mask. There are plenty of options out there! Ask your esthetician which is best for you.

  2. pat dry or let air dry.

  3. Spritz a toner or hydrating water. I like to keep skin damp throughout my skincare routine. I just feel like it allows the products to mingle and seep in together.

  4. Targeting serums. Are you looking to brighten dark spots, smooth texture, minimize fine lines? This is the part of your routine that you would apply your actives!

  5. Moisturizer!

  6. Oils! Lock it in.

Morning

  1. Start with a swipe of miscellar water or a quick cleanse (assuming you regularly clean your pillowcases you weren’t exposed to any dirt, were you? A fast cleanse should be just fine.)

  2. Carry on through the steps 2-6. You can skip Step 4 if the product increases photosensitivity

  3. SPF!!!!! No, the 15 that’s in your makeup is not enough.

Next Post will cover a few of my favorite products that we carry at Inderma Studio as well as some that are more widely available.
